empowe(red) collection

Feeling the need to help empower others, Nobska Craftsmen has created it's own (RED) product collection. In addition to donating a portion of the proceeds of the sale of these products to the Global Fund, Nobska Craftsmen will also be donating to Outreach Uganda - a US based nonprofit organization which helps to empower women and children in proverty strictened areas of Uganda, Africa. These products feature handmade paper beads accented with Swarovski crystals, seed beads, coral and glass beads.
The Ugandan women first choose the "correct" paper, which may require a 2 1/2 hour bus trip to the capital of Uganda. The paper is then cut into triangular strips of various size and rolled around a needle, creating a bead shape. The size and shape of the bead is determined by the length and size of the cut triangle. The women place the beads on heavy weight fishing line about 3 feet long and then dip them in lacquer, coating the beads 3 times. The beads must dry completely before the next coat can be applied.
